I am a multi-media artist working with acrylic paint, collage and pastel on paper and canvas. My artwork is an instantaneous expression of what is happening “in the moment” and I develop these pieces – going beyond the initial impulse - with color and collage. In the past, I have taken classes with Connie Smith Siegel who teaches drawing and painting using the color theory of Johannes Itten (the Bauhaus Group). From her I learned a “sensing drawing” process developed from Charlotte Selver’s sensory awareness training. The merging of these two techniques inevitably guarantees an ability to step back uncritically from the art and to see the truth of what is produced. I have completed training with the Person Centered Expressive Therapy Institute (Santa Rosa). From these intuition-based processes I have developed my art and teaching. Being privileged to live in the beauty of Point Reyes, this environment - and memories of the north of England landscape of my childhood - continue to give me the spiritual sustenance that influences my work. In Marin County I have led workshops and conducted private sessions in my studio and elsewhere using intuitive drawing and color for gaining insight into personal issues - Art for Healthy Living. One of the emphases in my art has to do with how I am affected by perpetual world conflict. This is reflected in my War Series of paintings and collages. My work has been shown at the Marin County Civic Center, Gallery Route One in Point Reyes and in several Wild Carrots shows and open studios. I served on the board of Gallery Route One for 11 years and was a founding board member of the Community Land Trust Association of West Marin whose purpose is to expand affordable housing in the local communities surrounding Tomales Bay. I am still involved with these non-profit organizations.
